Yesterday had been so much fun when getting to know the area of Freeze fest – even if Idaite would still glare at any Shellders approaching and tuck her tail behind her back. Callaghanite the Diggersby/Zoroark cross had been given the responsibility to look after the five younger pokemon: his younger sister Sabinaite, an ice fusion Bunnelby, Ningyoite a Swinub/Skiddo cross, Alstonite, a Spheal/Slowpoke, Feldspar, a Chespin that remarkably resembled a plushie and the aforementioned Idaite, a fluffy Sentret/Zigzagoon/Cyndaquil cross. All of them had been chosen to accompany their trainer Helen on the Freeze fest due to their suitability to be on the freezing temperatures because of their thick fur or Ice typing. And today they would see the festival in full glory! However Helen had managed to take a dive into one of the fishing holes and was now feverish and thus unable to take part on the festivities. So while she stayed behind in their motel room Callaghanite took the younger pokemon to see the festival.

When they got to the festival area their jaws dropped – everything was gone! Some of the tents were smouldering and staff and festival goers could be seen all looking confused of what had happened. No one seemed to know what had happened, though with the fire marks there were also marks of ice.. and the weirdest lines on the ice of the lake, almost as a whole herd of something had been ice skating there.  Callaghanite and the others decided to investigate the marks closer, maybe there was a clue why everything had been destroyed.

“They look a bit like iceskate marks, don’t they?” asked Sabinaite, touching one with her paw.

“You are right, but look how deep they are…” answered Idaite, also examining the marks.

“OOOH! Maybe it was an iceskating Mamoswine!” shouted Ningyoite, excited of the thought of maybe seeing a member of her evolution line as she was a huge fan of Mamoswines.

“Duh, you are silly, how could a MAMOSWINE have BURNED the tents though?” said Alstonite, who had so far only tried to look after the Shellder he had befriended yesterday.

“Well maybe it was a FIRE TYPE? Sab has a different type than other Bunnelbies, so why not some Mamoswine too?” Ningyoite reasoned while staring at Alstonite through her squinted eyelids, angry at him for not seeing how obviously it would be a fire breathing , ice skating herd of Mamoswine.

“Uh yeah,a well it could be uh.. uh.. Ice skating fire Beartics too! Or Dewgongs!” Alstonite yelled at her trying to come up with the silliest thing imaginable to make Ningyoite sound ridiculous. Sabinaite and Feldspar didn’t like this turn of the events and looked at Callaghanite for help.

When he noticed what was going on he immediately commanded the two. “Nin and Al, stop it right there! Until we know for sure it could have been any of those things and arguing about it doesn’t help at all” he said while stepping between the two young crosses. Ningyoite and Alstonite prepared to say something to him when Idaite interrupted them.

“I don’t know what it was that caused this, but the tracks seem to go this way..” she said and pointed towards the hills near the lake.

“Ooh, can we go look? Please Callaghan, pleeease!” asked Feldspar, Ningyoite and Alstonite, already forgetting their quarrel before. Even Idaite and Sabinaite looked excited for the first time since learning that there wouldn’t be any festivities today. Callaghanite sighed. “Fine, but you all need to listen to my commands and if we see anything dangerous then you need to run, okay?” he listed the rules. “Yes! Let’s go!” the younger pokemon yelled. Callaghanite looked at Feldspar with his stubby legs and said “You better hop on so you can keep up” while he grabbed the little plushie pokemon and let him ride in his mane. Then they started following the tracks away from the lake and towards the hills.

Somehow all the pokemon managed to push through the snow determined to find out what has caused the fest to be burned and smashed. And besides, half of the way was downhill which they could just slide down. After sometime they came on top of another hill and under it something was glittering in the light. After looking at each other and deciding that it didn’t look dangerous the six pokemon sled down yet another hill. Under the hill in a valley were the strangest herd of Rapidash and Ponyta. All of them were different shade of blue and their manes seemed to made of ice crystals instead of the usual fire. “OOOoh, so pretty!” exclaimed the girls in one voice while looking at the manes and the snowflakes on their flanks. Callghanite noticed that on their woolly legs were sort of iceskates instead of hooves.. and when he rised his line of sight he noticed that he was staring straight in the eyes of one of the Rapidashes. And he didn’t look too happy.

The Rapidash snorted and stomped his feet on the ground, which made everyone take a step back and Sabinaite to hide behind his brother.

Callaghanite decided that it would be best to act politely among these horses. “Uh, good day to all of you! I’m Callaghanite and these youngsters are Idaite, Alstonite, Ningyoite, Sabinaite and Feldspar. Say hi all!” he presented themselves and Idaite managed to smile and wave to the herd while Ningyoite and Alstonite just stood there staring and Sabinaite sacredly peeked from behind Callaghanite. Feldspar had hid himself in Callaghanite’s mane and couldn’t be seen. The Rapidash who was nearest to them didn’t seem impressed with this and stared at them very intensively.

“Well, we are coming from the Glace Lake” Callaghanite started and could see they eyes of the Rapidash narrowing but decided to continue: “There was a festival to be held there today, but all of the tents and supplies were destroyed and we were trying to figure out who or what caused that.. would you happen to know?”. After asking Callaghanite braced himself to whatever would be coming, he would need to protect the younger pokemon if the Rapidash would decide to attack.

To his relief the Rapidash didn’t attack but turned his head so they could see all of his mane and on his mane he showed them images. In the images they could see the lake freezing while the horse pokemon danced on the forming ice. Through the images they could all sense that this was a very important event to the Rapidashes and Ponytas. But then the images got a reddish hue. These were newer ones, from yesterday on the looks of it. The herd had finally arrived at the Glace Lake to have their ritual – but the lake was filled with tents and carnival stuff that left no room for their dance! The Rapidash were blinded with rage and tore and burned and stomped everything until nothing was left standing. With the imagers fading they could see how upset the horses were.

“Oh..” sighed Callaghanite, he was at a loss of words.

“That’s so sad…” said Idaite, holding her paws together.

“So that’s why everything was broken” said Alstonite, stating the obvious, but staring and Ningyoite making sure she knew iceskating, fire breathing Mamoswines certainly weren’t involved. Ningyoite didn’t answer.

No one had noticed that Feldspar had slipped out of Callaghanite’s mane and was whispering with Sabinaite. They looked at each other, nodded and stepped in front of Callaghanite and the others.

“Oh mister, Rapidash, we are so sorry that your event was ruined” started Feldspar.

“But while you were upset you also ruined our event there, and now no one is happy” continued Sabinaite. The Rapidash who had addressed them stare at the two small pokemon, listening carefully what they had to say. Callaghanite felt like he wouldn’t dare to breathe. Even Alstonite had stopped everything to just listen.

“So we were thinking, wouldn’t there be a way to make everything allright for all of us?” asked Feldspar, looking upwards with his adorable button eyes, trying to make eyecontact with the Rapidash.

“We were thinking that maybe there could be one big, big festival for all of us” ended Sabinaite, also gazing upwards to the Rapidash. “Please, we could make it work!”. The Rapidash stood silent for a moment and then looked at the herd. The little Ponytas looked really hopeful to have a chance at a festival, but the Rapidashes weren’t convinced with just the words of children.

“How?” was the answer they got from the herd as one, filled with sadness, rage – and hope.

Sabinaite and Feldspar looked at the others for ideas. Idaite stepped forward and said “Well, all of you are so beautiful while you stand that I couldn’t imagine you dancing, it would surely be magnificent to look at.”

“Oh yes! And I’m sure everyone else would stay off the ice while you perform if they were told so!” continued Callaghanite, sure that the others at the lake would understand.

“Oh, oh, and, there would be like, food and sweets! I saw that the tent didn’t burn since it was right next to our motel!” Ningyoite popped in.

“So, what do you think, should we try it?” asked Callaghanite, hoping that the horses would see reason to calm down.

The Rapidash turned to face his herd to discuss with them about the possibilities. Callaghanite or the others couldn’t understand the horses communicating with each other, but could see that there were differences between them. Finally the Rapidash turned towards them with an answer.

Let's see how the ice fishing gang deals with the ruined festival!
